Q1: Where did you come up with the name “Gaprunner?”
A1: Oh, this a fun one! Great question to start off. So, when I was little, I used to live in North
Carolina. There is a road in the mountains of NC that is called Deals Gap that has 318 turns in 11
miles!!! My dad was a very active motorcyclist and I used to ride on the back of the bike with
him on that road during camping trips/road trips. The term for people who rode on the road
was “running the Gap” hence the name Gaprunner.
Q2: How long have you been streaming for?
A2: I started streaming in September of 2020, but it was very off and on before I took a one
month break for the holidays. I wouldn’t say I REALLY started streaming heavily and seriously
until January of this year.
Q3: What prompted you to start streaming?
A3: I don’t remember if there was a specific thing that prompted me to start streaming
necessarily. I would say that there are a few factors that led to it! I’ve been a huge fan of
YouTube for as long as I can remember and always wanted to do some form of content
creation. I don’t have time to edit at the moment, so twitch became my platform of choice! In
high school I was also really into theatre. I’ve always loved to entertain and felt that it was time
I give it a go. Covid also helped move me along. I had a lot of free time because of it. The rest is
kind of history!
Q4: What has been the most enjoyable part of streaming for you so far?
A4: If I had to pick one thing that has been the most enjoyable about twitch it is by far the
people I’ve met!! I honestly don’t think I would be here doing this interview if it wasn’t for
meeting so many amazing other streamers and supporters. I am all about chatting and
interacting with my audience. Getting to know people on a more personal level is the by far the
most rewarding thing about this whole journey.
Q5: What has been the biggest challenge in your streaming career so far?
A5: Oh man this one is all too real for a lot of us streamers. When I was first starting out, I really
struggled mentally. I had a lot of friends that pushed me to affiliate rather quickly but
afterwards the growth kind of fizzled out and I lost viewership. I started to get hard on myself
and kept saying I wasn’t good enough to make it. That turned out to not be the case in the
slightest. In the past few months of streaming, I’ve really changed my mindset for the better!
Q6: What has been your favorite on screen memory so far?
A6: Man, there are so many to choose just one! Buuttttt…. if I had to choose it would probably
be my first hype train while playing tabletop simulator no less xD. I think that was the tipping
point where I realized that I DO belong on this platform and that I have a lot of support here. I
just needed to get out of my own head to realize that. The support has been amazing, and I
can’t thank everyone enough!
Q7: What is one goal that you would like to accomplish in the next year?
A7: My biggest goal I want to accomplish in terms of twitch is to hit 1k followers by the very end
of the year. At the time of writing this I sit at around 300 or so which is already insane to me!!
As many of you know though I am currently in college for mechanical engineering so another
goal would be to get a good gpa and hopefully land a good internship!
Q8: What is one piece of advice that you would give to a small streamer who is just breaking
into the business?
A8: There are so many things I wish I knew before getting into this whole thing. Id say the best
piece of advice I could give is to try your hardest to not get into your own head. Believe me I
know that is easier said than done. There was genuinely a point where I wanted to give up
twitch because I didn’t feel I could make the cut. There was a part of me though that knew
deep down I loved it too much to just throw it away. If you love streaming and are passionate
about it don’t let anything stand before you. The sky’s the limit!!
Q9: What is one reason someone should watch Gaprunner on Twitch?
A9: Oh man I have to self-promote! Well, if I could give one reason for someone to stick around
my channel is that I try to be the most authentic version of myself that I can be. I really pride
myself on being open and genuine for anyone in chat! I’m just a normal guy that loves to play
video games. I always welcome new people and would love to meet and know everyone!
Q10: Where are you from?
A10: I am from Pennsylvania. I will admit though I’ve been all over and have “grown up” in
many different places. As I mentioned in Q1 I lived in North Carolina. I have also lived in South
Carolina, New Jersey, and I currently live in Indiana!
Q11: Besides playing video games, what do you like to do in your free time?
A11: I usually spend a lot of time watching movies with my roommates or spending some time
with them. I am also very much a musical kid, I love to sing, I play Saxophone as my main
instrument and I also dabble in guitar.
Q12: What is your favorite food?
A12: Chicken Broccoli Alfredo, Final Answer!!!!
Q13: What is your all-time favorite video game?
A13: Oh man this is a toughy. If I had to choose though I’d say either Skyrim or Fallout 4. I am
leaning toward Skyrim though as I have very fond memories of my Dad and I bonding over the
game. He would let me stay up super late until like 4 in the morning while I watched him play or
vice versa. 10 years later (kinda insane its that old already) its still a game I continue to come
Q14: What is your all-time favorite movie?
A14: I am a massive fan of Sci-Fi or fantasy movies and James Cameron’s Avatar is a good
combination of both. I remember seeing that movie in theatres and instantly fell in love!! I think
I’ve seen it about 1000 times at this point. Such a great film and what it did for the movie
industry was a plus too!
Q15: What kind of music are you most likely to be listening to on any given day?
A15: I love all kinds of music!! I have wildly different tastes depending on how I’m feeling. I like
everything from pop, to rock, to show tunes, to rap. It really depends on the day. I will say my
favorite band is Coldplay. I had the privilege of seeing them live in a crowd of 90k people. It was
such an awesome day.
Q16: Besides streaming, what would be a dream career for you?
A16: As I mentioned before, I am in college for mechanical engineering, but I omitted that I am
also doing a degree in motorsports engineering. My family took me to the Indianapolis 500
when I was 5 years old. I have been a total of 9 times since then and it will forever be my
favorite place to be. I have dreamed of winning that race and while I can’t do it as a driver, I
would love to be a part of a team as an engineer!
Q17: What would be the ideal vacation for you?
A17: Hmmm that’s a tough one too! Man, these questions are good. I have never been to
Europe and I have always wanted too. I took a lot of German in High School, so I’d love to visit
Germany and see everything the nation has to offer.
Q18: If you were to strike it rich, what would be the first thing you would buy?
Q18: The first thing I would do is pay off all my debt but beyond that: I always promised my dad
I would buy him a Ferrari as that’s his dream car so I would certainly do that. I would probably
buy a few cars myself, and then use some of the money to travel and see the world!!! Once I
experienced all of that I would keep what I need to live and keep some for my family , and I
would give the rest away to charities or to people in need
Q19: Is there anyone you would like to give a shoutout to for supporting you throughout this
experience? If so, who?
A19: Yes, there is!! I would like to shoutout my amazing girlfriend Grace. She has been here for
this whole journey since the beginning. She has been with me through almost quitting twitch to
the highs I’m experiencing now. Without her I don’t know if I would be writing this for you
Q20: What is the next big step for Gaprunner?
A20: Well, I think the next big thing is to finish my degree. Whether or not I end up using it
remains to be seen. I just know I want to finish it. I really love twitch as well. If it ends up ever
getting to the point where I can sustain myself off it then I would do it in a heartbeat! I don’t
know what the future holds but I know that it’s going to be exciting. I have a lot of dreams that I
want to achieve, and it certainly looks like I am on my way to achieving them!
Q21: Any final thoughts you would like to share with the readers?
A21: If someone told me a few years ago that I would be streaming myself playing video games
I wouldn’t have believed them. Life has a funny way of showing you something amazing. I found
twitch and have really felt at home doing it. I am super privileged to have met some amazing
people along this journey and I can’t thank them enough. I am in it for the long haul and I am
excited to see where it takes me!
