Q1: Where did you come up with the name “WafflePlaysTwitch?”

A1: Well, originally I my usernames online were tagged “ToxicWaffles”; after my initials. But, since “Toxic” isnt really the GREATEST of labels to have in any community, I decided “Waffle(s)” would be a better route to go. All things considered; I WANTED it to be “Waffle Plays”, but someone else got to it first. So, naturally went with “WafflePlaysTwitch” because that would be the platform I would be streaming on.

Q2: How long have you been streaming for?

A2: I have been streaming for 6 months

Q3: What prompted you to start streaming?

A3: The biggest thing to push me to START streaming was my wife. Even before COVID hit; and I was furloughed from my job, she was telling me to try and make content on YouTube. But, soon after continuing my research into streaming I found that Twitch would be my preferred platform, and started streaming.

Q4: What has been the most enjoyable part of streaming for you so far?

A4: There are so many things about streaming that make me feel energetic, passionate, and inspired. Above all else, the most enjoyable thing about streaming is: The people from the community that we meet both on and off stream. We as streamers would be nothing about our community!

Q5: What has been the biggest challenge in your streaming career so far?

A5: Getting started and the ball rolling was the TOUGHEST part of this whole experience. There were a solid 2 1/2-3 months when I had MAX 1 viewer per week coming through to the chat to say hi. BUT, I cant really blame anyone but myself. The stream was, to put it lightly: Awful. I’m just glad I had people around me pushing myself to just keep at it.

Q6: What has been your favorite on screen memory so far?

A6: I would have to say it is a SOLID tie between: My first Affiliated Stream & A collaborative stream with “PaigeizSenpai” & “StormPhrog” where we played In-Silence. Both VERY amazing streams in their own ways that I will most likely remember and cherish forever!

Q7: What is one goal that you would like to accomplish in the next year?

A7: I have an actual list! BUT, one goal I would like to 100% accomplish in the next year is: Reach 1k! And be that much closer to cracking Partner!

Q8: What is one piece of advice that you would give to a small streamer who is just breaking into the business?

A8: Do NOT expect success overnight. If you DO so happen to blow up, that is fan-TASTIC, but dont expect it! Ive seen a lot of streamers give up because their “numbers” arent looking how they want them to look after only a month, with bare minimum done to their actual stream.

Q9: What is one reason someone should watch WafflePlaysTwitch on Twitch?

A9: I would say that the best thing about my channel (from what I’ve been told) is my engagement that I bring to people in the chat. I dont care if you are lurking or having a 1 on 1 heart to heart, you will get SOMETHING out of me that will be warm, funny, and engaging.

Q10: Where are you from?

A10: I was born in Santa Clara, CA and raised in Santa Cruz, CA. But I have lived all over the state/west coast.

Q11: Besides playing video games, what do you like to do in your free time?

A11: I have a wide variety of interests outside of gaming, but CURRENTLY in my free time I like to: Hang out with my Daughter, Wife, and Brother. I enjoy helping other small streamers get their footing in the community with things like overlay work, etc. I also enjoy studying a wide variety of topics on the internet, meditating, drinking whiskey, smoking marijuana, and listening to music.

Q12: What is your favorite food?

A12: My ALL TIME favorite food would have to be: Nigiri. Fresh fish and rice will always own my heart as far as food goes.

Q13: What is your all-time favorite video game?

A13: I struggled a LOT with this, I have played A LOT of games. But, the one game I always come back to, that has a grip on me like none other would be: Hollow Knight by Team Cherry. My reasoning behind is long and drawn out, but can be boiled to these 3 things that STILL blow me away: The Mechanics are clean, intuitive, and just restrictive enough to give you a challenge. The music is BEAUTIFUL, to the point where I listen to the sound track on my own time to help me calm my mind. And lastly, the fact that this game was made by Team Cherry; a group of 3, is insane; to say the least.

Q14: What is your all-time favorite movie?

A14: My all time FAVORITE movie would have to be Ace Venutra, Pet Detective: When Nature Calls. Jim Carry has always been a huge inspiration to my personality, my humor, and my overall snarkiness to things that otherwise would daunt people. But that is not why this is my favorite movie. My father and I would watch this move, on loop, for as long as I could remember when I was a child. And I will always cherish this movie because of the memory of spending that time with him.

Q15: What kind of music are you most likely to be listening to on any given day?

A15: So, I’m kind of a ‘musical chameleon’. One day I may be listening to Moonlight Sonata by Beethoven, while the next I’m bumping Sicko Mode by Travis Scott. It’s all about what my mind is resonating to that day. But, recently, I’ve been very drawn to ChillStep/Lofi; specifically ChilledCow Radio on Spotify and Youtube.

Q16: Besides streaming, what would be a dream career for you?

A16: I have 2 currently:
1. Be the founder of a Multi-Media Conglomerate; like a Kind of Funny or Funhaus.

2. Open up a Food Truck serving Ramen and Tonkatsu to people all over the Bay Area

Q17: What would be the ideal vacation for you?

A17: My Ideal Vacation is LITERALLY this: Go back to Santa Cruz for a week, and at SOME POINT during the week; Go get sushi from my favorite spots, go to West Cliff and enjoy the ocean air (and a good Blunt), and go to the Tea House spa to enjoy their amazing tea and honey while soaking in hot tub.

Q18: If you were to strike it rich, what would be the first thing you would buy?

A18: If I were to get rich spontaneously I’d have to say the first thing I would want to buy is a decent house on a nice plot of land in the Central Valley. I know that may seem cliche, but, I grew up poor and moved around often, so I would want nothing more than to be able to know that my family will be secure for generations to come.

Q19: Is there anyone you would like to give a shoutout to for supporting you throughout this experience? If so, who?

A19: When I started, I messaged 5-6 big streamers and 3-4 small ones to ask for some advice. And no one even took the time to tell me to fuck off. But then, one day, I get a follow on Twitter from a small streamer and I reach out to him. He actually replied. He told me “Most important part is to keep at it. That’s the thing that will guarantee your success, don’t give up no one is an overnight success” and that not only put a fire in me to grow, but also inspired me to help others do the same. Thank you GuessWhosGaming.

Q20: What is the next big step for WafflePlaysTwitch?

A20: The next big step here at Waffle Plays isn’t a HUGE one, but it’s a start, and that’s to begin “Waffle Promotes”; a Twitter Page with the sole purpose of being a community for all streamers to be able to grow and engage with others in the community WITHOUT some dickhead trying to charge them 5$ a month/tweet.

Q21: Any final thoughts you would like to share with the readers?

A21: I have too many to share just here alone; but I will say this: Love one another. There is so much evil and hate in this world existing already, constantly trying to poison our perspective. But WE don’t have to be like that. We can be better than that, kinder then that, more empathetic. We can evolve.

I would also like to thank Salvation for allowing me to participate in this Q&A, and just overall being so kind and accepting of me; even though we have not known each other very long. You are an inspiration as well as a dear friend, and I can’t wait to see where this crazy adventure takes all of us.
